Hoyer Statement on Retirement of Congressman Norm Dicks
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Congressman Norm Dicks (WA-6), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that he is retiring at the end of this Congress:
“For three decades, Norm Dicks and I have served together in Congress, and he is not only a respected colleague but a dear friend. I’m saddened that Norm has decided to retire at the end of the 112th Congress. He will be greatly missed in the halls of the Capitol by Members on both sides of the aisle.
“Since the people of Washington’s 6th District first sent Norm to Congress in 1977, he has been a faithful and tireless fighter on their behalf. As a longtime member and now Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee, Norm has helped ensure funding for our national security, for vital anti-poverty programs, and for investments aimed at creating jobs and growing our middle class. Serving as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, he has been a champion of our men and women in uniform and a staunch advocate for a strong national defense and a well-equipped military.
“Having served on the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee for his entire tenure in Congress, Norm helped support our national parks, protect the Puget Sound, and preserve the natural beauty of Washington’s Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas so that it can be enjoyed by future generations. Throughout his time in office, Norm has continued to be a patron of the arts and an advocate for local businesses.
“I wish him and Suzie and their family all the best as he embarks on the next phase of his career.”
