Vanuatu Independence Day
Press Statement Hillary Rodham Clinton Secretary of StateWashington, DC
July 28, 2011
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to congratulate the people of Vanuatu as you celebrate your National Day this July 30. Since establishing diplomatic ties fifteen years ago, the United States and Vanuatu have forged a relationship that has grown stronger through our shared commitment to strengthening democracy, enhancing security and promoting development. Just recently we completed a project together through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which rehabilitated two busy national roads and improved the capacity of the Public Works Department to manage Vanuatu’s transport network. The United States is committed to the future of Vanuatu and the South Pacific region. As you celebrate thirty-one years of independence, know that the United States remains a partner and friend. I wish all in Vanuatu a year of peace and prosperity.
