Lavrov invites North Korea's Kim to Russia: report
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is visiting Pyongyang, North Korea, on Thursday, has invited North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, according to Reuters. Lavrov told Kim that Moscow supported peace and progress on the Korean peninsula and highly valued a declaration signed by Pyongyang and its South Korean counterparts, the report said. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with North Korean Gen. Kim Yong Chol, often described as the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's right-hand man, this week as White House teams work on logistical and substantive issues ahead of the potential summit between President Donald Trump and Kim, the timing of which remains uncertain.
