Hoyer Statement on the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service:
“As we celebrate the centenary of our National Park Service, let us reflect on the natural bounty of this great country and the extraordinary beauty of its diverse landscapes and renew our commitment to preserving them for future generations.
"From the soaring cliffs of Yosemite in California to the quiet trails of Greenbelt Park in Maryland, from the rich wildlife of the Everglades in Florida to the somber memorials of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, the National Park Service makes it possible for Americans to experience the wonder of nature and our national heritage. At the same time, it offers educational programs and hands-on learning about nature, history, and science that helps people of all ages better understand the challenges of conservation and the dangers of climate change.
"I join in expressing my gratitude to the men and women of our National Park Service and all those who have worked over the past century to fulfill its mission of safeguarding our nation’s greatest treasures, both natural and cultural, for the enjoyment of Americans today and in years to come.”
