Hoyer: “Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership” Initiative Demonstrates Commitment to Growing America's Manufacturing Sector
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to the Commerce Department's announcement of twelve communities that have been designated “Manufacturing Communities” as part of the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership initiative:
“Today’s announcement by the Commerce Department that the first twelve Manufacturing Communities have been selected as part of the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership demonstrates the Administration’s commitment to job creation and growing America’s manufacturing sector. Manufacturing has played an important role in our economic recovery, and it has long been a source of jobs and opportunities that allow Americans to secure a place in our middle class. Programs like this, that will attract manufacturers and support good jobs, are critical to our efforts to expand on the success of our manufacturing sector.
“Congress should support initiatives like the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership by passing legislation that invests in manufacturing growth and helps more of our workers access high-skill, high-wage jobs that won’t be shipped overseas. House Democrats continue to promote our Make It In America plan, which calls for a national strategy to boost manufacturing, increasing exports, encouraging companies to bring jobs and innovation here, and securing a workforce ready to compete for the jobs of the twenty-first century. I hope Democrats and Republicans in the House can work together to complement this step taken today and pass Make It In America bills this year.”
